The importance of the education given in the field of health and the services provided to the public by the students were more understood during the pandemic period. Emphasizing that health will be extremely important until the end of human history, experts say that if they receive a good education, experts who graduate from departments in the field of health sciences will not have trouble finding a job. Saying that nursing practice cannot be learned without education, Prof. Dr. Şefik Dursun said that the training of departments such as OHS and Child Development should not be given remotely. Dursun, "He who does not see the fire becomes an occupational health and safety expert."

Üsküdar University Faculty of Health Sciences Dean and Head of Biophysics Department Prof. Dr. Şefik Dursun talked about the importance of the departments in the Faculties of Health Sciences and the employment opportunities.

“The value of health education is understood in the pandemic”

Reminding that the education given in the field of health and the service provided to the public by the students trained in the field of health are seen more clearly during the pandemic period, Prof. Dr. Şefik Dursun said, “There are important departments in our university such as child development, nutrition and dietetics, physiotherapy, language and speech therapy. Since each of these is applied, students who establish a dialogue with people are raised. During their education, students have the opportunity to apply what they have learned after the theoretical lessons. They are organized in the career center to carry out vocational training of applied courses in businesses. We tried to do this as much as we could, despite the pandemic.” said.

“Vaccination is important for healthy face-to-face education”

Stating that they made a preparation to ensure the adaptation and orientation of the candidate students, Prof. Dr. Şefik Dursun said, “Because there is a pandemic right now, it seems that it is extremely important that university staff and teaching staff be vaccinated in this environment. If students are also vaccinated, we can provide a healthier and more peaceful environment. Thus, we can continue face-to-face education without interruption. As stated by both the Ministry of Health and other officials, face-to-face training is indispensable. At this point, it is a situation that requires students to be vaccinated as well. They will protect someone else or their family, they will protect their friends and themselves.” used his statements.

“Nursing cannot be learned without hands-on training”

Emphasizing that health will be extremely important until the end of human history, Prof. Dr. Şefik Dursun said, “Therefore, after graduating from health-related departments, students have no difficulty in finding a job in the field. For example, nursing has such an important place as a separate faculty in our university, as in the policies of the Ministry of Health. There were problems in applied training due to the pandemic, but we tried to make up for it. It is not possible to learn the nursing profession without practical training.” said.

“Applied training should not be given remotely!”

prof. Dr. Şefik Dursun drew attention to the fact that education is given in open education universities on child development and occupational health and safety and continued his words as follows:

“To see the child, to deal with his psychology and to follow his social relations with the society is a process that a child developer should experience personally. These features are tried to be given to students in open education. This is wrong app. In this regard, we think that practical training is very important in the field of health. Occupational health and safety should be considered in the same way. He who does not see the fire becomes an occupational health and safety specialist. Occupational health and safety has now become an important problem in Turkey. It would be better if the Council of Higher Education could control the universities in Turkey. For example, the Faculty of Health Sciences is supervised by YÖK.”

“With a good education, they will not have trouble finding a job”

Stating that there are many departments in the Faculties of Health Sciences, Prof. Dr. Şefik Dursun said, “There is a concern about not being able to find a job after graduation, but there is a need for health sciences students who have completed their undergraduate education in Turkey. After receiving a good education, a midwife, child development specialist, nurse and physiotherapist will not have any problems finding a job.” said.
