President Soyer called for the declaration of Murat Mountain as a National Park this time within the scope of the 12-item declaration containing the salvation recipe of Gediz, which he announced after his examinations in the basin tour he took with the slogan "Clean Gediz, Clean Gulf". Noting that the mines intended to be built on Murat Mountain have caused irreparable damage to the Gediz Basin by writing to the Ministry, Soyer said, “It is vital to protect Murat Mountain and its surroundings as a National Park, the source of the Gediz River, which gives life to the region.”

Great danger for the Gediz Basin

Sending a letter to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in this direction, President Soyer said, “Gediz, one of the important river basins of our country, arises from Murat Mountain in Kütahya and reaches the Aegean Sea. The basin has been suffering from pollution and drought problems for many years, and licenses for nickel-cobalt, lead, zinc and copper mines and enrichment facilities have been obtained or are desired to be obtained in the region where Murat Mountain is located. All of these areas are made up of larch trees. In addition, Murat Mountain has the status of an important natural area in Turkey with its endemic plant species. Some plant species are only found on Murat Mountain worldwide. It is of regional importance for many birds, especially raptors. Butterfly species that are endangered and need to be protected also live in this region. We see the importance and benefit of declaring a National Park within the scope of the Law No. 2873 on National Parks in order to protect, acquire and promote the Murat Mountain and its surroundings, the source of the Gediz River, which gives life to the region. I believe that our Ministry will take all necessary actions to protect nature and our unique resources.”

No one has the right to destroy this beauty, this source of life. We will protect nature, water and soil and leave a legacy for future generations.”
