“Poetry Lines”, which was implemented for the first time in line with the goal of Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer to transform Izmir into a city of culture, started with a tour of the gulf accompanied by poetry listeners on the Bergama Ferry. İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Mustafa Özuslu said, “We are people who believe that art changes the world and life. If you want to change the world and life, you will take art as your guide and follow in its footsteps.
İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, which supports culture and art producers during the pandemic, did not leave the poets of İzmir alone with the cooperation of İzmir Aydın and the Artists Platform, including the Turkish Writers' Union (TYS), the Science and Literature Authors' Professional Association (BESAM), the International Activist Artists Association. “Poetry Lines”, which was structured with the coordination of İzmir Aydın and Artists Platform responsible poet and writer Namık Kuyumcu from İzmir, brought together 40 poets from İzmir with music accompaniment on the Bergama Ferry for the first time. İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Mustafa Özuslu and his wife Müyesser Özuslu and his daughter Zeynep Özuslu, İzmir Industrialists' Business People's Association Chairman Hasan Küçükkurt, İzmir Journalists Association President Dilek Gappi, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Ertuğrul Tugay, artists and art lovers attended the event.
The Free Poetry Lines event will be held in the villages where the most books are read, where the Bergama Ferry, Alsancak Pier, Bostanlı Recreation Area and Mobile Library serve.
Özuslu: Politics and art change the world
Emphasizing the importance of art and the artist, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Mustafa Özuslu said, “We are people who believe that art changes the world and life. If you want to change the world and life, you will take art as your guide and follow in its footsteps. Politics and art are the two most important phenomena that change the world, value and power. The main thing is solidarity, the unity of ideas. The poems that 40 poets will recite on the streets of Izmir show the people of Izmir the difficulties experienced during the pandemic period, the art survives despite poverty, and that there is an Izmir Metropolitan Municipality that is aware of this, and that Tunç Soyer is the head of the Metropolitan Municipality. Here we prove once again what the spirit of solidarity means.” said.
İZSİAD Chairman of the Board of Directors Hasan Küçükkurt, who stated that they were happy for the project to be realized with their proposal for Poetry Lines, emphasized the importance of taking part in a night full of poetry.
