Turkey donated 8 Kirpi I TTZAs and 14 AKTAN Battlefield Fuel Tankers produced by BMC to the Somali Army

According to the statement made by the Somali National Armed Forces on 15 August 2021, Turkey donated a mine-proof armored personnel carrier to Somalia. It was stated that the vehicles donated within the scope of the aforementioned development were the KİRPİ I TTZA (Tactical Wheeled Armored Vehicle) developed by BMC and the AKTAN Battlefield Fuel Tanker.

It was reported that 8 Kirpi I TTZA and 14 AKTAN fuel tankers produced by BMC were among the vehicles delivered to Somalia by Turkey with a ceremony. According to the statement made by the Somali National Armed Forces, the donated vehicles were delivered to the Somali Ministry of Defense together with the Chief of the Somali National Armed Forces, General Odowaa Yusuf Rage. In the statement in question, it was stated that mine-proof armored personnel carriers will be used by Gorgor Commandos.

According to the statement made on the official Twitter account of the Ministry of National Defense, the oath ceremony of the 8th Somali Infantry Battalion, which received basic training at the Somali Turkish Task Force Command, Turkey's largest military training center abroad, was held. It was also stated in the statement that the said swearing-in ceremony was held in Anadolu Barracks (Mogadishu/Somalia) on May 16, 2021.

Somalia Turkish Task Force Command is a military training base located in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia. The said base was opened in September 2017. It serves as the main headquarters of the intergovernmental task force called the "African Eagle", where Turkey tries to train and prepare the officers and non-commissioned officers of the Somali Armed Forces. This base also serves as Turkey's largest overseas military facility.
