Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin introduced a new generation of river vehicles called “river tram”. The electric river trams, which will operate on the Moscow River throughout the year, have a capacity of 42 passengers.
Providing information to the press, Mosgortrans officials of the Municipal Transportation Department said that there will be enough space to put bicycles and scooters inside the trams, and that USB ports for charging, wireless internet and communication panels will be placed in the vehicles.
Troika transport cards will also be valid on river trams. Trams are expected to speed up transportation up to 5 times as an alternative to bus lines in districts located along the river.
According to the municipality's plan, the first two tram lines will start operating from June 2022 between Kievskaya-Moscow City and Fili and between ZIL and Pechatniki.
