Evaluating the new Astra, Opel CEO Michael Lohscheller said, “With the new Astra, a new Lightning is born. The new model opens the doors of a new era with its impressive design, leading technologies in its class, electric and highly efficient engine options with the lowest possible emissions. The new Astra has been designed with great precision down to the smallest detail. "We are confident that the next-generation Astra will continue to be our brand's best-selling model and has everything it takes to attract many new customers to our brand."

New Opel Astra

A new interpretation of Opel's strong and pure design philosophy

The design of the new Astra meets the current design language that Opel will apply throughout the 2020s. The Opel Visor, which is the brand's new face and essential exterior design element, used for the first time in the real Mokka, runs along the front of the vehicle, making the new Astra appear wider. Technologies such as the ultra-thin Intelli-Lux LED® headlights and the Intelli-Vision system's front camera are seamlessly integrated into the front structure. The new generation Astra looks very dynamic when viewed from the side. From the rear, the Opel Compass approach is repeated by the Lightning, which is centrally positioned in the middle, and the vertically aligned high-position brake light and taillights. As in all exterior lighting, energy-saving LED technology is used in the taillights as well. The lightning logo takes on an important function as the latch of the trunk lid.

“The new Astra represents the exciting next step in our new design approach,” said Mark Adams, Vice President of Design, evaluating the new Astra's design. has a personality. The interior is also taking a bold step into the future. The new Pure Panel, with its driver-oriented cockpit with large glass surfaces, will provide our customers with a completely new emotional experience.”

New Opel Astra Cockpit

New generation Pure Panel digital cockpit with all-glass option

The same German sensibility applies to the interior, which is highlighted by the new generation Pure Panel used for the first time in the Mokka. This large digital cockpit is optionally available in all-glass form and stands out with its two 10-inch screens integrated horizontally, together with the driver's side ventilation. Thanks to a curtain-like layer that prevents reflections on the windshield, the cockpit does not require a visor over the screens, combining advanced technology and functionality and further enhancing the interior ambiance. With its physical controls in the form of elegant buttons, which are minimized, Pure Panel provides the optimum balance between digitalization and intuitive operation. The new generation infotainment system, which can be used with natural language voice control apart from the touch screen and has connected services, offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity developed for smartphones.

Astra goes electric for the first time with powerful rechargeable hybrids

A first in the brand's compact class history, the new Astra will be offered to the market in powerful rechargeable hybrid versions, apart from high-efficiency petrol and diesel engine options, from the start of sales. Power options range from 110 HP (81 kW) to 130 HP (96 kW) in petrol and diesel versions, and up to 225 HP (165 kW) in plug-in hybrid versions. While a six-speed manual transmission is offered as standard in petrol and diesel engine options, an eight-speed automatic transmission is optionally available in more powerful engine options.

Dynamic and balanced handling, “highway safe” braking and stability features

The new Astra is built on the third generation of the highly flexible EMP2 multi-energy platform, in keeping with the Opel DNA from the very beginning. This means that the handling is dynamic yet balanced, and like every Opel, the new model is “highway safe”. The high-speed stability of the model is one of the top priority development goals. The new model performs superbly during braking and remains remarkably stable in curves as well as in a straight line. The torsional rigidity of the new Astra is 14 percent higher than the previous generation.

lower and wider

The new Opel Astra, which will be presented to the market with a sporty five-door body type, will have a wider interior compared to the generation it replaces, despite having a lower silhouette. With a length of 4.374 mm and a width of 1.860 mm, the new Astra is right at the center of the compact class. The new Astra has a 2.675 mm (+13 mm) longer wheelbase, but is only 4,0 mm longer than its predecessor. With its muscular and confident stance, the new Astra offers a luggage volume of 422 liters with its practical luggage with adjustable floor.

Advanced driving assistance systems, including semi-autonomous lane changing

The new Astra also includes the latest autonomous driving assistance systems. All this advanced technology uses four body cameras, one on the front, one on the back and one on the side, in addition to the multi-function camera on the windshield, five radar sensors, one on the front and in each corner, as well as ultrasonic sensors on the front and rear. Camera and sensors are integrated with e-horizon connection under Intelli-Drive 2.0, which extends the range of cameras and radar. This technology allows the system to adapt speed on bends, make speed recommendations and make semi-autonomous lane changes. The hand detection feature on the steering wheel ensures that the driver is always involved in the driving with pleasure.

Intelli-Drive 1.0 includes functions such as rear cross-traffic alert, long-range blind spot detection and active lane positioning that keeps the car in the center of its lane. New Astra brings premium Intelli-Lux Pixel Light® to the compact class

Astra's role as a pioneer in advanced technology continues with the Opel brand's areas of expertise, namely lighting and seating systems. The previous generation played a leading role in the introduction of the adaptive matrix headlight in 2015. The new generation, on the other hand, offers Intelli-Lux LED® Pixel headlight technology, which is the ultimate in lighting, to the compact class for the first time. This advanced technology, available in Opel's Grandland and Insignia models, offers the most advanced lighting technology in the market with 84 LED cells, each of which is 168 in the ultra-thin headlight. The high beam is adjusted flawlessly in milliseconds without glare in the eyes of other road users. In oncoming or forward traffic, drivers are not affected by the light beam at all. The range and direction of the light are automatically adapted to the driving conditions and environment.
