Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Dr. Bekir Pakdemirli and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu examined the fire area, which started at 4 points in Antalya's Manavgat district and spread over a wide area.
Pakdemirli, in his statement after the examinations, said that 31 of the fires in Turkey are under control and the efforts to bring 10 fires under control are continuing.
“MANAVGAT FIRE UNDER CONTROL”
Pakdemirli, who also gave information about the forest fires in Adana, said:
“Our Antalya Manavgat fire is under control, but a fire that broke out in Akseki at night still continues. There is a fire in Yahyalı, Kayseri. The fire continues in Aydıncık district of Mersin. The fire in Silifke is thought to be from the high voltage line. In order to control the fires, 3 aircraft, 29 helicopters, 458 waterers and 1832 personnel work in this area. Unfortunately we have a loss. An 82-year-old citizen passed away in Akseki Kepezbeleni District. Our property is important, but nothing is more important than our lives. An 82-year-old uncle, who was left alone at home while Kepezbeleni was being evacuated, has passed away. We have to comply with announcements and calls.”
“THE CIRCUMSTANCE OF OUR CITIZENS STRAPPED IN THE OYMAPINAR DAM IS GOOD”
Explaining that some neighborhoods were evacuated, Pakdemirli said, “There is information that 10 people are trapped in the Oymapınar Dam. They are not life threatening, they are presumed to be restaurateurs.” used the phrases.
Expressing that work has been started for the rescue of the citizens, Pakdemirli said, “Our ambulance and AFAD teams are on the way for our citizens at Oymapınar Dam. The road is clear, they will try to evacuate them somehow.” said.
Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli stated that as of now, there is no threat to an important settlement or life regarding the fires.
Minister Pakdemirli said that the aerial response to the fires started in the early hours of the morning and they were carrying out their activities in a difficult way.
“MULTIPLE INVESTIGATION REGARDING THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS CONDUCTING”
Emphasizing that their priority in the works is the settlements, Pakdemirli stated that the works become difficult due to the very strong wind and low humidity.
Expressing that a multi-dimensional investigation is being carried out regarding the cause of the fire, Pakdemirli said, “Of course, the detection of fires is extremely important, but at the moment, it is more important to control the fires, and if possible, to prevent damage to life and property than detection. Our friends are working.” said.
“WE MAY BE POSSIBLE TO TAKE ADDITIONAL MEASURES IN THE FOLLOWING HOURS”
Pakdemirli said that all public institutions also support the works and noted that they are working hard to control the fires as soon as possible.
Calling on the citizens to comply with the calls of the police, the gendarmerie and AFAD, Pakdemirli said, “Let's evacuate the places that need to be evacuated. As of now, there is no significant threat to settlements, no threat to life, but we may take additional measures in the coming hours as the wind changes direction.” he said.
“OUR HOPE IS TO CONTROL THE FIRE”
Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu also expressed his condolences, stating that one person lost his life in the fire in Akseki.
Noting that the fight against the fire continued throughout the night, Çavuşoğlu said that they also visited citizens who were being treated at the hospital. Stating that they are in good health, Çavuşoğlu said, “Our hope is to control and extinguish the fires both in Manavgat and in various parts of Turkey.” said.
