Izmir Metropolitan Municipality's sea sweeper named “Mavi Körfez 3”, which is used for cleaning the Gulf, set off to support the sea saliva (mucilage) collection activities on the shoreline of Çanakkale city. The sea sweeper ship, which will be in Çanakkale on Friday morning, is planned to participate in the cleaning works for 15 days. With the feature of collecting solid and liquid waste, “Mavi Körfez 3” will carry out the mucilage cleaning work together with Çanakkale Municipality.

“We will continue to protect our nature and water”

Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyerannounced on his social media account that the ship was sailing. President Soyer used the following statements: “We also participated in the mucilage removal campaign in Çanakkale. At the request of the Çanakkale Municipality, our Mavi 3 sea sweeper, which received permission from the Port Authority and the Border Coast Guard, set out to assist in the cleaning works. We will continue to protect our nature and water.”

Providing rapid response to environmental disasters such as oil spills, the "Mavi Körfez 3" sea sweeper ship has barriers called "Fence Type" or "Curtain Type" with foam floats. There are also two “skimmers” (oil scrapers) to collect the oil wastes accumulated in the barrier. The double hull catamaran type ship is 15 meters 28 centimeters long and 6 meters 15 centimeters wide. The ship, which has waste collection and storage conveyors with a capacity of 20 cubic meters to be used in solid waste services on its deck, also has the ability to collect garbage in the open sea.

There is also the "Floating Storage Tank System", which is used in Europe for liquid waste and has a capacity of 5 cubic meters.
