The groundbreaking ceremony of the longest railway tunnel project of Bulgarian State Railways (BDJ) of 25 kilometers was held in the Vakarel Station area, 6,8 kilometers from the capital Sofia.
Transport Minister Georgi Todorov inaugurated the modernization works of the Elin Pelin- Vakarel railway line, which will cover the longest railway tunnel in the country. The construction of the Elin Pelin- Vakarel railway line, the contractor of which is a Turkish construction company and which constitutes one of the most important pillars of the modernization project of the Bulgarian railways, started with a ceremony held today.
The ceremony was attended by Bulgarian Minister of Transport, Information Technologies and Communications Georgi Todorov, Bulgarian National Railway Infrastructure Company General Manager Krasimir Papukçiyski, Republic of North Macedonia Railway Infrastructure General Manager Hari Lokvenets, Albanian Railways General Manager Ani Dyrmishi and the chairman of the Turkish contractor company İsmail Doğan. joined. It was stated that the construction period of the project, whose foundation was laid, is 72 months and that other facilities such as underpass and tunnel overpass will be built on this route.
