Automotive Industry Association (OSD) announced the data for the January-June period. In the first six months of the year, automotive production increased by 23 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 639 thousand 661 units, while automobile production increased by 15 percent to 416 thousand 21 units.
Together with the tractor production, the total production reached 669 thousand 409 units. In the same period, automotive exports increased by 15 percent on the basis of units and became 461 thousand 528 units, while automobile exports increased by 6 percent to 297 thousand 127 units. In the January-June period, the total market increased by 57 percent compared to the previous year and amounted to 411 thousand 952 units. During this period, the automobile market increased by 52 percent and amounted to 310 thousand 325 units. According to the averages of the last 10 years, the total market increased by 12 percent and the automobile market by 17 percent in the first six months. The light commercial vehicle and heavy commercial vehicle market, on the other hand, was in line with the ten-year average. According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), the automotive industry, which has a share of 13,7 percent in total exports in the January-June period, completed the first half of the year as the leader.

Accordingly, in the first half of the year, total automotive production increased by 23 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 639 thousand 661 units, while automobile production increased by 15 percent to 416 thousand 21 units. Together with the tractor production, the total production was 669 thousand 409 units. During this period, the capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry was 65 percent. On the basis of vehicle group, the capacity utilization rates were 65% in light vehicles (cars + light commercial vehicles), 60 percent in heavy commercial vehicles and 79 percent in tractors.
6 thousand commercial vehicles were produced in the first 223 months
In the January-June period, commercial vehicle production increased by 43 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. In this period, the production in the heavy commercial vehicle group increased by 74 percent, while the production in the light commercial vehicle group increased by 40 percent. In the first half of the year, total commercial vehicle production amounted to 223 thousand 640 units. Looking at the market, the commercial vehicle market increased by 74 percent, the light commercial vehicle market by 67 percent and the heavy commercial vehicle market by 121 percent in the January-June period compared to the same period of the previous year. Despite the increase in the heavy commercial vehicle group compared to the previous year, when the base effect is taken into account, the truck market shrank by 2015 percent and the bus and midibus market by 30 percent compared to 66.
The market exceeded the 10-year averages by 12 percent.
In the period covering the first half of the year, the total market increased by 57 percent compared to the previous year and amounted to 411 thousand 952 units. During this period, the automobile market also increased by 52 percent and amounted to 310 thousand 325 units. Considering the averages of the last 10 years, the total market increased by 2021 percent and the automobile market by 12 percent in the January-June 17 period. The heavy commercial vehicle market and the light commercial vehicle market were in line with the average of the last ten years. In this period, the share of domestic vehicles in automobile sales was 40 percent, while the share of domestic vehicles in the light commercial vehicle market was 53 percent.
Automotive maintained its export leadership in the first half of the year
In the first six months of the year, automotive exports increased by 15 percent on unit basis compared to the same period of the previous year, and amounted to 461 thousand 528 units. Automobile exports increased by 6 percent to 297 thousand 127 units. In the same period, tractor exports increased by 86 percent and were recorded as 11 thousand 387 units. According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), the automotive industry exports maintained its first place with a share of 13,7 percent in total exports in the January-June period.
6 billion dollars export was made in 14,7 months
In the January-June period, compared to the same period of the previous year, total automotive exports increased by 34 percent in dollar terms and 23 percent in euro terms. In this period, total automotive exports amounted to 14,7 billion dollars, while automobile exports increased by 14 percent to 4,8 billion dollars. Automobile exports in Euro terms increased by 4 percent to 4 billion Euros. In the first six months of the year, exports of the main industry increased by 24 percent in dollar terms, while exports of the supply industry increased by 51 percent.
