The Current Situation Assessment Workshop was held within the scope of the Transportation Master Plan, which is among the projects that Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Murat Zorluoğlu attaches great importance and which will solve the transportation problem of the city.
The 1st Workshop on the Transportation Master Plan, on which the Metropolitan Municipality has been working meticulously for a long time, was held. Acting 17th Commando Brigade P. Alb. Cem Karoğlu, Ortahisar Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç, Akcaabat Mayor Osman Nuri Ekim, Provincial Health Director Dr. Hakan Usta, heads of departments and NGO representatives attended.
TRANSPORTATION IS AT THE TOP 3 PROBLEMS
Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Murat Zorluoğlu, who has been working diligently in consultation to resolve an issue that has been discussed in the city for many years, said in his speech at the workshop, “I am pleased to be together with you at our workshop where the collected data will be analyzed. You are community leaders who are closely involved with the problems of our city and produce ideas. One of the most important issues in our city is transportation. I know this because transportation is among the top 3 problems in all surveys. Therefore, as the Metropolitan, one of our priority jobs and fields of activity is transportation. For about 2.5 years, as the Metropolitan Municipality, we have started very important works in the field of transportation together with our district municipalities and other institutions.”
TARGET END 2021 BAHÇECİK END 2022 ÇUKURÇAYIR
Providing information about the works carried out, Mayor Zorluoğlu said, “The work of connecting the Kanuni Boulevard, the road coming from the south to the coastal road, continues. Despite all the economic difficulties, that work is carried out on Kanuni Boulevard without any delay or disruption. The target will be to finish the Bahçecik side at the end of 2021 and the Çukurçayır side at the end of 2022. Another issue is the connection of the road from the south to the beach. We've come a long way in that regard. We're halfway through the tunnels now. The construction will be completed by the end of this year. And the south road, you know, is the main reason for the blockage in Değirmendere. Therefore, when this is completed, a great deal of relief will be provided in Değirmendere.”
IT WILL BE MANAGED BY ONE HAND
Expressing that the road and street arrangements regarding transportation continue on a routine basis, Chairman Zorluoğlu said, “On the other hand, I would like to talk about our Transportation Service Building. When we started our duty, there was no one-stop management system of the public transportation system. Of course, in many cities, there are centers where transportation is managed from a single source, called the Transportation Operations Center. We built a very modern building in the transportation area in Moloz. It will be operational soon. We are creating a structure where not only the buses of the Metropolitan Municipality, but also the minibuses can be managed and controlled from a single source.”
TERMINAL TENDER WILL BE DONE IN THIS MONTH
Stating that the city's very important need is new car parks, Mayor Zorluoğlu said, “This situation emerged in the Transportation Master Plan studies. For this, we continue the construction of our car parks rapidly. The new buses were important to us. Our new bus fleet was not in a position to meet the need. We bought 20 buses last year and 10 this year. By pulling outdated buses, we will increase our quality and comfort. The process regarding the terminal building continues. There was a problem encountered in the terminal building. We will make a new tender this month. We will bring a much more modern and aesthetic bus terminal to our city.”
WE CONSULTED WITH ALL SECTIONS FOR MARAŞ AVENUE
Making an evaluation on Kahramanmaraş Street, which is among the most talked about topics in recent days, Mayor Zorluoğlu said, “We came together and consulted with all segments for Maraş Street. The Transportation Master Plan has been such a benefit to us. There are scientifically valid data. With simulations, we saw what the alternatives would be if Maraş Street was closed. We have determined that it will not pose a serious problem for our city. With the completion of the superstructure within this year, we are making the 400-meter part of Maraş Street pedestrianized. In case of emergency, we will leave way for logistics at certain hours from evening to morning. We shared its new version as a render. But this is not our final project. We will give the final shape to the project by taking the opinions of the relevant NGOs. We will ensure that it becomes worthy of Trabzon. We want to transform the 3 streets connected to the Square into aesthetically pleasing centers by making facade rehabilitation works.”
DIGGING IS HIT IN THE SOUTH RING ROAD
Giving another good news to the participants, Mayor Zorluoğlu said, “Yesterday, we held an evaluation meeting with our Regional Director of Highways and the project team. One of the most important vision projects of Trabzon when it comes to transportation is the Southern Ring Road. It is a must for Trabzon. All other measures are considered dressing measures. It is the Southern Ring Road that will solve the main issue. In this sense, along with the great efforts of our Honorable Members of Parliament, our Honorable Minister also supported. The first phase, starting from Akçaabat Akçakale and ending in Trabzon Bahçecik, was tendered and the works started. We had our second meeting yesterday. Very soon we will dig into Trabzon Southern Ring Road. We congratulate everyone who embraced the Southern Ring Road in this regard. "This was not a job to do alone," he said.

Ortahisar Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç, in his speech, said, “We are here to evaluate a big issue and produce solutions by highlighting the common mind. During the election, I talked to our President about the traffic problem of Maraş Street and Cumhuriyet Street in our first program. Our President had named these streets in his program. It is very important to produce solutions in order to bring them to life by not leaving them on the pages. I would like to thank my President, who made the decision of the pedestrianization of Maraş Street and Gazipaşa Street, in terms of setting an example for the pedestrianization of the part that creates squares in transportation planning.”
OCTOBER REPORTS TRANSPORTATION ISSUES
Akçaabat Mayor Osman Nuri Ekim also said, “We are evaluating the Transportation Master Plan. It is a work that is very important for our city and for Akçaabat. Especially the Akcaabat crossing, the difficulties we have experienced are obvious. Our problems with parking in the city are obvious. Problems with traffic routing in the city are obvious. We are working to pave the way for them. We will solve the problems of our district with this plan," he said.
BAYRAKTAR: WE STARTED WITH SURE STEPS
Fatih Bayraktar, Head of the Transportation Department of Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality, said, “We have started our 2024-targeted Trabzon Master Plan work as of February 2021 with firm steps. Collection and evaluation of data within the scope of the study, creation of transportation model, determination of problems and inadequacies. While the infrastructure works carried out in our city are continuing, the closure of Maraş Street has come to the fore. It has reached the final point of spreading the opinions of all stakeholders. In this process, a Transportation Master Plan was created by the contractor company, alternatives were determined and the decisions to be taken were prepared. I wish the workshop to be a good one," he said.
