The memorandum of understanding between the EU and IMM on the "EU for Energy Transformation: Contract of Mayors in the Western Balkans and Turkey Project" was signed at the Saraçhane campus of IMM with a delegation from Lithuania. Within the framework of this agreement, the EU will provide both consultancy services and a grant of 3 million Euros for the development of projects to IMM.

The application made by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) to the “European Union (EU for Energy Transformation): Contract of Mayors in the Western Balkans and Turkey Project” within the scope of the “EUforEnergy” program in May 2021 had a positive result recently. With the project, the EU will provide consultancy services, technical support and capacity support to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality on the development of the “Sustainable Energy and Climate Plan” (SECAP).

PROJECT CONSULTANCY FROM LITHUANIA

The signatures of the project agreement, which will contribute significantly to IMM's sustainable energy vision, were signed by Jūratė Lepardinienė, Deputy Director of Central Project Management Agency (CPMA) from Lithuania, and Mehmet Alkanalka, Head of Foreign Relations Department of IMM. Officials of the Directorate of Environmental Protection and the Directorate of Energy Management and Lighting were present at the signing ceremony, which was held under the coordination of the Directorate of EU Relations of the IMM Foreign Relations Department.

Sharing his views at the signing ceremony, CPMA Deputy Director Lepardinienė said that IMM's efforts in the field of sustainable energy are exciting. Jūratė Lepardinienė continued:

“We believe that we will take very important steps together with our cooperation. IMM will lead very important projects with the ideas that will come from both us and you.”

ALKANALKA: “WE WILL NOW HAVE A CONCRETE PLAN OF ACTION AGAINST GLOBAL WARMING”

After the signatures, İBB Foreign Relations Department Head Mehmet Alkanalka gave information about the project and said, “With this project, İBB will now have a concrete action plan in the fight against global warming, which is the biggest problem of our age and future. Alkanalka made the following statements:

“The SECAP project was a project that President İmamoğlu also attached importance to and emphasized. With the signatures, we will now take concrete steps. At the same time, this is an important achievement for both Europe's big megapolis Istanbul and our country. From now on, we will match our projects with the technical know-how of the professionals who will provide consultancy services to us and take action.”
