The local and national PCR Diagnosis and Variant Analysis Kit of the TRNC, approved for use by the Ministry of Health, can simultaneously detect the UK, South Africa, Brazil and India variants of SARS-CoV-1, along with the diagnosis of COVID-19, within 2 hour.

The PCR Diagnosis and Variant Analysis Kit, designed and developed by Near East University scientists, has been approved for use by the TRNC Ministry of Health. The PCR Diagnosis and Variant Analysis Kit, developed to detect the COVID-2 disease caused by SARS-CoV-19, detects the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in less than an hour, while at the same time Alpha (UK), Beta (South Africa), Gamma (Brazil) and Delta (India) variants can be typed.

With the approval of the SARS-CoV-2 PCR Diagnosis and Variant Analysis Kit, designed entirely by Near East University scientists, from the Ministry of Health of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, a strong domestic alternative to the test kits imported by the TRNC from abroad has been produced.

Achieved 100 percent success in comparative tests

The R&D and design process of the PCR Diagnosis and Variant Analysis Kit, on which Near East University scientists have been working for a long time, was completed in February. Continuing optimization studies and safety and sensitivity tests of the kit were completed and it was ready for production.

The results of the TRNC's native PCR Diagnosis and Variant Analysis Kit, which was subjected to many comparative tests to measure its reliability, sensitivity and sensitivity in the laboratories of the Near East University, were also confirmed with the results of the commercial kits currently used in the market. As a result of the comparative analyzes made with different kits, it has been proven that the developed kit works with 100 percent sensitivity and sensitivity.

TRNC Minister of Health Dt. Ünal Üstel: “The PCR Diagnosis and Variant Analysis Kit, developed within the Near East University, has all the necessary features for use with its high sensitivity and reliability”

Announcing that they approved the use of the PCR Diagnosis and Variant Analysis Kit developed within the Near East University, TRNC Minister of Health Dt. Ünal Üstel said, “As a result of our evaluation, we are very pleased to see that the PCR Diagnosis and Variant Analysis Kit developed within the Near East University has all the necessary features to be used in the detection of COVID-19, with its high sensitivity and reliability.” . Reminding that variant analyzes of SARS-CoV-19, which causes COVID-2, are very important to keep the pandemic under control, Minister of Health Üstel said, “The PCR Diagnosis and Variant Analysis Kit, developed by the Near East University, is being used simultaneously in our country. In addition, it will be a great advantage to be able to identify Alpha, Delta, Beta and Gamma variants.”

prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel: “It is a great honor for us to serve our country by producing the TRNC's native PCR Diagnosis and Variant Analysis Kit in the fight against COVID-19”

Near East Initiative Chairman of the Board of Trustees Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said that the PCR Diagnosis and Variant Analysis Kit, developed within the Near East University, is one of the most comprehensive variant analysis kits among the kits used commercially around the world. prof. Dr. Günsel said, “The PCR Diagnosis and Variant Analysis Kit, which we designed in our own research laboratories, gives results in as little as 1 hour, quickly, safely and with 100 percent sensitivity. It is a great honor for us to serve our country by producing the TRNC's native PCR Diagnosis and Variant Analysis Kit in the fight against COVID-19.

Explaining that the necessary approvals and permissions have been obtained from the Ministry of Health for the use of the Near East University PCR Diagnosis and Variant Analysis Kit, Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said, “All our preparations for the production of the domestic PCR Diagnosis and Variant Analysis Kit are complete. We will make it available domestically in the first place. We want to offer the PCR Diagnosis and Variant Analysis Kit, which we developed in the next stage, to use abroad, especially in Turkey.”
