Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer examined the tunnel and viaduct project, which will be opened between Buca and Bornova and will ease the traffic of the city. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality General Secretary Dr. Accompanied by Buğra Gökçe, Chairman Tunç Soyer received information about the progress of the project. Stating that the project is one of the solutions to the traffic problem in İzmir, Mayor Tunç Soyer said, “It is a giant project with a total cost of around 1 billion liras in today's figures when finished. The important thing is that we will create an uninterrupted transportation opportunity from the İzmir entrance, from the ring road to Konak, together with the viaduct and tunnel. It will also greatly ease the traffic flow in the city. The relief of the flow in this region will trigger the relief in other parts of the city and pave the way for it," he said.
We will make people of Izmir breathe
Stating that a great deal of effort was spent on the project, Chairman Soyer said, “It was a project that started earlier but was left unfinished due to the contractor's abandonment. Now, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Department of Transportation is making an intense effort to bring the project to life with great speed. The piers, the upper beams, all this, the 1850-meter section will be finished in 6 months at the latest. We will make the tender for the tunnel in mid-August. Likewise, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality teams continue to work quickly for the section after the tunnel. Step by step, we will walk, but when we finally enter from the ring road, we will open a brand new axis that will connect Buca, Konak and Bornova. Although its budget is very high, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality is strong enough to undertake this budget. We will get through this and we will make the people of İzmir breathe. We will have taken a very important step that will greatly alleviate the congestion in traffic,” he said.
