The Republic of Turkey State Railways (TCDD) broke new ground in preventive maintenance services. The ultrasonic device, which detects the damage on the rails made in Ukraine, was developed by Turkish engineers. “IRON EYE”, whose R&D work and development was carried out by TCDD Teknik, started to work. With the ultrasonic robot, even the smallest cracks that occur on or in the rails can be detected.

Developed by TCDD Technical engineers, “IRON EYE” has the ability to reach a speed of 40 km and scan for 10 km without interruption. Ultrasonic and Eddy-Current device achieved 100 percent success in test studies.

Demir Göz, where TCDD General Manager Ali İhsan Uygun followed closely the test studies, started his duty on the rails. General Manager Uygun “Our first goal is safety. By putting the Iron Eye into service, we have taken one of the most important preventive measures. We save a lot of time and cost. Our friends working at TCDD Teknik achieved success. Safety and comfort on railways is our first priority. " said.

On the other hand, he stated that necessary steps have been taken and initiatives have been taken to increase the line capacity and use effective capacity in railways, to implement preventive maintenance to reduce maintenance costs, to reduce energy and logistics costs, to use domestic and national technology in construction and maintenance.

DEMİR GÖZ will ensure the security of 12 kilometers of railway network in Turkey. 'Iron Eye', which was produced in approximately 803 months, increases the speed of intervention on the rails by 8 times. Equipped with state-of-the-art systems, 'Iron Eye' also has the feature of going on the road alongside the railway. The vehicle has two measurement systems, one is the ultrasound measurement system and the other is the Eddy-current measurement system. With the ultrasound measurement system, the cracks in the rail are detected.

The maintenance to be done is determined according to the size of the crack in the rail. In the Eddy-current measurement system, capillary cracks on the surface of the rail are detected. According to the size and depth of these detected cracks, maintenance is carried out on the rails. Thus, the safety of the railways is ensured by detecting and maintaining the breakage, deterioration and wear of the rails in advance.

Ultrasonic measurements are made every 3 months on high-speed train lines, every 4 months on high-speed train lines, and every 6 months on conventional lines. It is possible to measure approximately 150 kilometers per day on railways.

Developed by TCDD engineers, DEMİR EYE was produced at a cost of 6 times its counterparts and in a short time like 8 months. Work continues for completely domestic production.
