The first meeting of the June regular meeting of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Council was held at the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center. Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer, stating that İzmir has won the title of the world's first Cittaslow Metropolis pilot city, said, “We have been doing this work for many years in order to give this title to the metropolitan areas and to establish the relevant criteria. At the Cittaslow 12 General Assembly on June 2021, it was decided that İzmir would receive this title. For the first time in the world, İzmir received the title of Cittaslow Metropol. This is our common success, the common success of Izmir. In addition to Paris, Brussels, Barcelona, many metropolises in the USA wanted to take this title. Many studies were carried out on this subject in the world. The fact that İzmir has taken the lead will be a litmus paper that will guide our work as both prestige and as the Metropolitan Municipality.”
Saying that this title is a success that will bring İzmir to the agenda of the world, Soyer said, “From now on, İzmir will be used as a reference for metropolises who want to get this title. This has been a great pride for us. I would like to thank my colleagues and the members of the Metropolitan Municipality council for their efforts. May our way be clear. İzmir will take a much larger place on the world stage. We will all be proud of being from Izmir," he said.
