Gebze Technical University (GTU) will provide research-oriented specialization in the priority areas of Chemistry, Electronics, Automotive and Rail Systems, which are included in the 11th Development Plan.
The President of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), Prof. Dr. Yekta Saraç came together with the rectors of the "Research and Candidate Research Universities" within the scope of the "Research Oriented Specialization Project" of YÖK at the meeting hosted by Istanbul Technical University. President of TÜBİTAK and YÖK officials attended the meeting held under the chairmanship of YÖK President Saraç, as well as the rectors and relevant vice-rectors of 11 universities, including 5 researches and 16 candidate researches. At the meeting, the decisions taken as a result of the studies carried out by YÖK on the subject of "matching the research universities in the 11th Development Plan with the priority sectors according to their competencies" were shared with the public for the first time, and the steps to be taken in this context were discussed.
All sectors and sub-areas included in the Development Plan were matched with one or more universities. There are no unpaired, exposed areas left. In this context; With the sectors of chemistry, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, electronics, machinery-electrical equipment, automotive, rail system vehicles, which are among the priority sectors in the Development Plan, the food supply security sector, whose importance has emerged once again during the pandemic period, and with universities within the framework of 39 sub-field competencies within the scope of these sectors. paired. Included in GTU's 11th Development Plan; It was decided to provide research-oriented specialization in the priority areas of Chemistry, Electronics, Automotive and Rail Systems.
Making a speech at the opening of the meeting, President of YÖK Saraç said that one or more universities of all priority sectors and sub-fields in the 11th Development Plan were matched by YÖK by taking their competencies and opinions. He stated that these matches will be forwarded to the Presidency Strategy and Budget Department to be used in decision-making processes, especially in investment programs. In this way, he said, it will be easier to spend public resources more efficiently and based on competence. President Saraç also said, “Our research and candidate research universities will be encouraged to establish academic units such as research centers, departments and programs related to the matching fields of specialization, and to cooperate with universities in the same priority sector and field.” used the phrases.
