Important steps were taken on behalf of the sector at the Çorum Defense Industry Meeting organized by SAHA Istanbul, which was established with the aim of developing national systems in the defense industry, civil aviation and space sectors, in cooperation with the Çorum Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

Çorum Defense Industry Meeting, organized by SAHA Istanbul, Turkey's largest industrial cluster, for the production of domestic and national technologies throughout the country, hosted important developments for the sector. The event started with the opening speech of Çorum Chamber of Industry President Çetin Başaran Hıncal, attended by names such as Muhsin Dere, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of National Defense, and Hasan Büyükdede, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Technology.

Four companies from Çorum started production in the defense industry

Making the opening speech of the event, Çorum Chamber of Industry President Çetin Başaran Hıncal; “As the Çorum Chamber of Commerce and Industry, we have been making great efforts to contribute to the defense industry for about ten years. Since Istanbul and Ankara are stuck on the industrial road, we are now starting production in Anatolia. This infrastructure and industrial culture exists in Çorum. Currently, Çorum plays an important role not only in defense but also in the machinery industry. Today, 200 companies export their products to 160 countries. I hope that at the end of today, it will end with good results for Çorum and our defense industry.”

The locality rate of Turkey's defense industry has reached 70 percent today.

Providing information about the development of the Turkish defense industry in his speech, Deputy Minister of National Defense Muhsin Dere said, “I am happy to be together with my friends who do business with the defense industry under the leadership of SAHA Istanbul. Çorum has reached an important point with its technology, industry and exports exceeding 1 billion dollars. After that, we will talk about what we can do with the right names in the defense industry. We are ready to cooperate in every matter to move the defense industry forward. The localization rate of Turkey's defense industry has reached 70 percent today. Today, we need to talk about how we will increase critical technologies to 90 percent by localizing them, how we can transform our small industrialists in Çorum into medium and large industrialists. Çorum has reached a certain point today. We will discuss what we can do next,” he said.

“Çorum industrialists should give more importance to R&D studies”

Hasan Büyükdede, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Technology, started his speech by thanking the protocol; “Today, we came together with an industry meeting we are organizing in Anatolia under the leadership of SAHA Istanbul. Today, we aim to direct the companies from Çorum in the defense industry and to produce value-added products in Çorum. We want to increase the rate of locality and nationality in our country's defense industry. Çorum is located very close to airports, ports and many other points in terms of location. Our Çorum, Sungurlu and Osmancık organized industrial zones are ready for investment. Çorum ranks fourth in the scope of regional incentives. By using this position effectively, we must carry out qualified work in the defense industry and move the position of the Turkish defense industry to higher levels. Today, many European countries have targets such as manufacturing in Turkey. We need to open up to the world in the same way. In this direction, what we want from our industrialists in Çorum; It is in the direction of giving more importance to R&D studies, doing more work in organized industrial zones, closely following the technology-oriented industry move. Again, we want them to give importance to defense industry cooperation and to give more support to human resources.”

After the opening speeches, Çorum Chamber of Industry President Çetin Başaran Hıncal and Çorum Deputy Governor Recep Yüksel; Muhsin Dere, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of National Defense, and Hasan Büyükdede, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Technology, presented their plaques.

The meeting will increase the rate of locality and nationality in the defense industry.

Making evaluations about the meeting, SAHA Istanbul Secretary General İlhami Keleş said, “As SAHA Istanbul, we are taking Turkey's defense industry one step further with all the activities we have realized. I think that we have come a long way in this goal with our first event to transform the industrialists of Çorum into an important player in the defense industry. Our industrialists from Çorum, our defense industry and our country will soon reap the fruits of this meeting. This meeting will further increase our local and nationality rate in the defense, aerospace and space industries. As a cluster, we will continue to increase our efforts to increase the contributions of Anatolian producers to the defense industry, as well as Çorum.”
