Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar answered journalists' questions on his arrival at the Turkish Grand National Assembly. When asked about Russia's warning fire to the British destroyer HMS Defender in the Black Sea, Minister Akar stated that they were following the statements made. Pointing out that there are different explanations, Minister Akar said, “What is the truth of this matter, what is not, our friends continue their work on this issue. This issue will become clearer in the coming hours. We are following." gave the answer.

When asked about the information that a delegation from the USA would come to Turkey to discuss the activities to keep the Kabul Hamid Karzai International Airport in Afghanistan operational, Minister Akar said, “We have historical and cultural relations with Afghanistan based on centuries. Afghan people are our brothers. We, together with other countries, have made every effort in the last 20 years for the comfort, peace and security of our brothers there. Especially in the last 6 years, we have done our best to operate the Kabul Hamid Karzai International Airport and to provide technical support.” he said.

Emphasizing the importance of Kabul Hamid Karzai International Airport in many areas, Minister Akar said:

“The fact that this point works will be in favor of our Afghan brothers. In this sense, various countries continue their work. As a country that operates there even now, we maintain our contacts with various countries. We have contacts now. In this context, we will have a meeting with the Americans tomorrow. They sent a delegation here. What we are trying to do with this is; We are in search of what we can do to contribute to the safety and welfare of our Afghan brothers there. We are working on this. We already have our presence there right now. At the moment, we are not in a situation to send soldiers in any way. We maintain contact with other countries, we are in search of them together. When these works are completed in the upcoming period, necessary measures will be taken and it will turn into a plan. Kabul Hamid Karzai International Airport is important for Afghanistan. We have been at the airport for 6 years. We continue our work and contacts in order to maintain our presence there or not. Everything is for the safety and well-being of the Afghan people, our Afghan brothers and sisters.”

NO CUSTOMIZATION

Minister Akar, who was reminded of the criticisms of the bill regulating the Machinery and Chemical Industry Corporation (MKEK) to be a joint stock company, and asked for his evaluation, said, “We need to see the studies on the development of the domestic and national defense industry in the current period. Proud rates have been achieved in this regard; Intensive work continues in the public and private sectors. MKEK has a very special and important place among these studies. MKEK is an institution that has served our country for years, the apple of our eye, and an institution that we attach great importance to. While the studies are ongoing, as the experts have said, it is not possible to provide the necessary developments, to make progress, to use advanced technology with its current structure and its cumbersome structure. What we are trying to do here is to make MKEK's modern structure, get rid of this cumbersome structure, improve its competitive power, and serve our country and our nation better with an effective and flexible structure. To put it briefly, there is no privatization, there is no question of reversing the personal rights of our brothers and children working there.”
