Competing in the FIA WEC World Endurance Championship, Alpine ELF Matmut Endurance Team introduced its new vehicle.
Alpine has a great track record of success in endurance racing and is now taking on the challenge to compete in the top category of the FIA WEC and 24H Le Mans 2021.
This new project in endurance racing demonstrates Alpine's competitive ambition, a brand born from competition, as well as its commitment to Formula 1.
Certified by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile as the Alpine A480, the prototype is built on an Oreca chassis and powered by a 4,5-liter V8 manufactured by Gibson Technology. Equipped with Michelin tires in accordance with Hypercar class regulations.
The A480 will be driven by three experienced endurance pilots, Nicolas Lapierre, André Negrão and Matthieu Vaxiviere.
The racing team will be led by Team Manager Philippe Sinault, as has been the case since 2014, with numerous successes in the LMP2 class.
Laurent Rossi, Alpine Chief Executive Officer, said: “Motor sports cannot be considered independent of Alpine. Since we returned to endurance racing in 2013, this adventure has brought us great emotions and great victories. After eight successful years, it's time to enter the top category, where the brand has made a fresh start. Advances in regulation provide us with the opportunity to express our passion and demonstrate our know-how and experience in a fair and reasonable manner. “We will do our best in every race to make the colors of Alpine shine at the highest level of motorsport.”
Philippe Sinault, Head of the Alpine ELF Matmut Endurance Team, said: “Alpine's history has been full of challenges. Since 2013 we have been proving ourselves step by step and showing that we can defend Alpine colors at the highest level. This new struggle is part of that mentality. Alpine's trust in us for this project is a source of great pride. At this time, which marks a turning point in the history of the endurance racing world, we approach this program with humility and a desire to do the best. “With Alpine, we are determined to tackle this exciting and incredibly motivating challenge to once again anchor the French and international motorsport pantheon.”
Without forgetting their valuable technical partners and suppliers, Alpine ELF Matmut Endurance Team underlined the support of these privileged partners: ELF, Matmut, Réseau Renault, Identicar, Thiriet, Havas Group, Dewesoft, Bahco, Ixell and Sabelt.
