The names of the astronauts who will participate in China's Shenzhou-12 manned space mission have been announced. At a press conference regarding the mission, it was announced that the Shenzhou-12 manned spacecraft will launch from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China at 09.22:XNUMX local time tomorrow. At the meeting, it was noted that three astronauts named Nie Haisheng, Liu Boming and Tang Hongbo will take the spaceship into space.
It is reported that Nie Haisheng, who will lead the flight mission, has previously participated in the Shenzhou-6 and Shenzhou-10 space missions, Liu Boming has participated in the Shenzhou-7 space mission, and Tang Hongbo will participate in the space mission for the first time.
According to the information given at the meeting, the Shenzhou-12 manned space mission is China's fourth launch mission carried out during the testing phase of critical technologies in the space station, as well as the first manned space mission to be carried out during the space station construction phase.
The mission's objectives are as follows:
- In-orbit testing of critical technologies for the construction and operation of the space station, such as the bioregenerative life support system, space resupply, astronauts' extravehicular activities and repairs, as well as long-term astronauts in space
- Testing the ability to locate astronauts at the Dongfeng landing site;
- Performing space experiments covering many fields;
- Evaluation of the functions and performances of various systems and the coordination between systems by gaining experience for future missions.
According to the plan, after the Shenzhou-12 manned spacecraft enters orbit, it will perform a rapid automatic docking with the space station's core module Tianhe, forming a complex with Tianhe and the cargo ship Tianzhou-2. The astronauts are expected to land at the Dongfeng landing site via the return cabin after three months in the core module.
