Flights resumed at Diyarbakir Airport, whose runway renovation works were completed. Due to the increase in civil and military flights in recent years, Diyarbakir Airport was closed to all flights on May 24, 2021 to repair the deterioration of the main runway. Maintenance and repair works carried out with the coordination of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and the Ministry of National Defense were completed within the specified time.
Civil flights started on June 24, 2021, as previously announced, at the airport, which was taken into maintenance for a period of 1 month as of May 25, 2021.
While the runway was under repair, Diyarbakir Airport flights were carried out from Batman and Mardin Airports, which are approximately 100 km from Diyarbakir.
In order to prevent passenger grievances and to ensure uninterrupted transportation, separate transportation was made for each plane to the airport. The minibus cooperatives in Batman and Mardin provided services so that passengers would be at the airport one hour before the departure time of the planes.
