Filyos Port was put into service with a ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu. Speaking at the opening ceremony of Filyos Port, President Erdoğan said: “We are excited. This work is not 10 years old, not 20 years old, but 150 years old, all the way back to Sultan Abdulhamid. Filyos Port, which is a trade and industrial area where large tonnage ships can load and unload, has finally come to life”. Minister Karaismailolu said, "We are completing our projects one by one by accelerating port investments with our vision that will be the trade lake of Eurasia, the increasing commercial traffic of the Black Sea and the gains to be made from here to our country."

“Filyos Port has an annual capacity of 25 million tons”

Pointing out that 90 percent of world trade is carried out by sea, Minister Karaismailoğlu stated that Turkey, which is on the way to become a logistics superpower, has put forward ambitious projects in this regard. Underlining that hundreds of construction equipment and thousands of employees worked day and night for 1765 days, the Minister Karaismailoğlu said, “We are happy to increase the number of ports on our coasts from 37 to 84 during the period of our governments. We have completed the dock and backyard construction at Filyos Port, a 'giant logistics center' project that will take both our region and our country one step further. As in all our projects, we have paid great attention to the development of the natural texture around our port. A thousand trees have been planted on the slopes overlooking our port,” he said.

“It is possible to handle 13 ships of different sizes at the same time”

Karaismailoğlu said, “At the minus 14-meter quay in our port; General cargo ships of 70 thousand dead-tons and container ships of 110 thousand dead-tons will be served. Also, at our minus 19 meter quay; Service will be provided to dry cargo ships of 180 thousand dead-tons and container ships of 195 thousand dead-tons. The annual capacity of our port, where 13 ships of different sizes can be handled at the same time, is 25 million tons. Turkey will continue its investments in the field of transportation and communication with all its strength. For our industrialists, exporters, farmers and tourism professionals, we will implement our projects, one after another, that make the distances close.”

“Filyos Port will be the center of natural gas shipment and trade”

Reminding that Filyos Port has hosted drilling ships since its construction phase, Minister Karaismailoğlu emphasized that Filyos Port is an important logistics base and spoke as follows:

“After the discovery of natural gas by our Fatih Drilling ship, which delighted our country, our 132 hectares of backfield areas, together with the 14-meter-long and 23,6-meter-deep dock, were allocated to the Turkish Petroleum Corporation. Our Legal Ship recently received service from our port. We are happy that our port, which we designed as one of the most important logistics bases of our country, has already gained the position of being the center of natural gas shipment and trade. In order for the trade routes to provide uninterrupted service, we are connecting our Filyos Port and Filyos Industry Industrial Zone to the railway lines and increasing the road capacity. Our port, as an important logistics base, will accelerate the development of our Western Black Sea region together with Karabük, Zonguldak and Bartın.”

Filyos Port, where large tonnage ships can be loaded and unloaded, finally came to life

Stating that an international trade and industry area where ships can load and unload has been realized, President Erdoğan said, “Now we are in Filyos to witness the historical moment. We are excited. This work is not 10 years old, not 20 years old, but 150 years old, all the way back to Sultan Abdulhamid. Since that day, it has endured with negligence. Before coming here, we visited the port and the area where our gas processing facilities will be built, listened to the presentations. Filyos Port, a trade and industrial area where large tonnage ships can load and unload, finally came to life. With its breakwater and port, it is able to receive 13 ships at the same time, excluding tankers. 13 ships can dock here. This port, which has a very high depth, is Turkey's largest port. This means that our Zonguldak has such a beautiful port in the Western Black Sea, whether it is with its magnificent breakwater, interior and exterior berthing areas, in the West Black Sea region, we will have the chance to open up to the world from here in Zonguldak. This port is also one of the important infrastructures of increasing the world's top 2023 economies in our 10 target. At the end of the year, we started to see the light of reaching an export figure of 200 billion dollars. I congratulate everyone from the Ministry, who contributed to the construction of the port, to the contractor company and its employees.

President Erdoğan announced the highly anticipated good news at the opening of Filyos Port. “Our Fatih Drilling Ship has made a new natural gas discovery of 1 billion cubic meters in the Amasra -135 well in the Sakarya gas field,” Erdogan said.
