The Ministry of Interior sent a circular on “Bar Association General Assemblies” to 81 Provincial Governorships. According to the circular, bar associations with less than 400 members will be able to hold their general assemblies in accordance with the epidemic measures, except on Sundays, as of June 15, 2021.

In accordance with the article of the law in question, it was stated that some bar association administrations wanted to hold elections in June, on the grounds that the election process should cover two days (Saturday and Sunday) and the elections should be held on Sunday for bar associations with more than 400 members, and the following issues were listed:

  • Within the scope of the circular sent to the provinces on 01.06.2021, it was stated that the events with broad participation, including the general assemblies of NGOs, public institutions professional organizations (including their superior unions), trade unions, unions and cooperatives, excluding sports clubs, should be postponed until 15 June 2021. It was stated that it was not possible for them to hold their general assembly until June 15.
  • As of June 15, 2021, in accordance with the provisions of Additional Article 3 of the Attorneyship Law, bar associations with less than 400 members; There is no harm in holding their general assemblies (in accordance with the epidemic measures) on other days except Sundays.
  • Bar associations with more than 400 members; According to the Additional Article 3 provisions of the Attorneyship Law, they will be able to hold their general assemblies, which must be held for two days, covering Saturday and Sunday, starting on Saturday and Sunday, June 26-27, 2021.

In the event that the curfew is continued for Sundays on and after the specified date, lawyers who will participate in the bar association elections and have the right to vote and other election officials will be exempted from the curfew.
