“Ahmet Wheat” seeds, which have been cultivated from father to son for generations and are about to run out, are brought to Turkish agriculture with the project supported by Duru Bulgur. Ahmet Wheat, which will be distributed to farmers in 2023 at the latest, with the joint project of Duru Bulgur and Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University, will make significant contributions to our country's agricultural exports.

The process is progressing rapidly in the project, which was initiated with the aim of reintroducing Ahmet Wheat, which is Turkey's 2-year-old domestic wheat, to the agricultural industry. Within the scope of the project carried out jointly by Duru Bulgur and Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University, it is aimed to make the wheat, which is mainly cultivated on barren lands in Turkey, more productive. Duru Bulgur Honorary President İhsan Duru, who stated that they aim to bring back the disappearing Ahmet Wheat to Turkish farmers, said, “With its 2-year history, Ahmet Wheat has been kept by our farmers in historical granaries and jars in Karaman Taşkale until today. A few years ago, we came together with Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University in a joint project and started working to reproduce Ahmet Wheat in the cultivation areas. The results obtained so far have progressed in a very positive way. We will share the seeds we obtained with our farmers when the trial phases of Ahmet Wheat are over. We believe that Ahmet Wheat, which is extremely valuable, will attract great attention especially in export markets. I believe that Ahmet Wheat will see the value it deserves on the tables all over the world.”

Seeds developed using natural methods

Pointing out that Ahmet Wheat is rich with its high protein and quality bulgur, Karamaoğlu Mehmetbey University Bioengineering Department Head Prof. Dr. Nevzat Aydın also said, “When we found the seed of Ahmet Wheat, we started working on it. We wanted to make wheat productive for the farmer. With the project we started to preserve the genetic quality of wheat, we aimed to bring this wheat, which produces delicious bulgur, back into production. In the project we carried out within the scope of University-Industry cooperation, the traditional hybridization method used all over the world and in our country was used to develop seeds. We developed seeds quickly, in a natural process, under greenhouse conditions. The test stages of the seeds we have developed under field conditions continue. After the quality analyzes we will make, the seeds we obtain will be brought to our producers.”
