IMM is implementing a project that has been held for years. Unkapanı Intersection, which is located in the heavy traffic flow and completes its economic life, is being renewed. Within the scope of the work to be done by turning the complete closure process into an opportunity, a 350-meter-long underpass will also be built to extend the Cibali - Alibeyköy Tramway to Eminönü.
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) is realizing another important project that has been held for years by turning the 17-day full closure process into an opportunity. The demolition of the Unkapanı Junction, which has completed its economic life and is at risk of collapse in a possible earthquake, begins on Wednesday, May 5th.
Within the scope of the "Unkapanı Intersection Bridge Renovation and Tramway Underpass Construction" work, the existing 5-span bridge will be demolished and a new bridge with 32,50 meters width and 44 meters in length will be built. At the same time, a 2-meter-long underpass will be built in the Unkapanı area of the Eminönü - Alibeyköy Tram line, which was completed until Cibali.
Thus, while the Unkapanı Junction bridge, whose height is insufficient and completing its technical life, will be renewed, the tram line, whose Alibeyköy - Cibali section has been put into service, will be delivered to Eminönü.
Making a statement on the subject, IBB President Ekrem İmamoğlu“We are renovating the expired Unkapanı Junction Bridge and connecting the Golden Horn Tram to Eminönü. With a comprehensive study, we will both renew the risky bridge, construct the tram underpass and create a beautiful coastal route for the Golden Horn.”
INTERSECTION WILL BE COMPLETED IN 3 MONTHS
In the first place, between May 5, 2021 and May 17, 2021, Ragıp Gümüşpala Street will be closed to traffic with the roundabouts in the intersection in order to create a traffic circulation plan in the form of a roundabout. 29 trees in the intersection will also be transported without any damage.
A traffic circulation project was prepared to direct the traffic during production. Accordingly, the junction branches will be temporarily removed and the traffic will operate as a roundabout. After May 17, 2021, the traffic flow will be provided from the roundabout to be created for 3 months. In this process, the old bridge will be demolished, the new bridge intersection will be manufactured and the rainwater and waste water lines will be renewed. These productions will be completed by 31 July 2021 and the intersection will be opened to traffic.
Tram line underpass work will start on May 18, 2021 and the work will be completed on July 31, 2022. In this process, 57 more trees will be transplanted.
