The gondola-type cable car near Lake Maggiore in northern Italy crashed from meters high. According to the last minute information in the international news agency AFP, 12 people died in the accident. The Stresa-Alpino-Mottarone cable car line, last renovated in 2016, is at an altitude of 1500 meters above sea level.
It was stated that the cable car cabin fell into the forest area 300 meters before the arrival point in Mottarone. Speaking about the accident, local official Walter Milan announced that the two boys were taken to the nearest hospital by helicopter.
It was underlined that the fall of the cable car in the forest caused difficulties in the rescue efforts. It was noted that the ropeway line in question was reopened on April 19 after the Kovid-24 outbreak measures.
