On 8 July 2018, 25 people lost their lives and 317 people were injured in the train accident that took place in Çorlu. A memorial will be built in the memory of those who died in Uzunköprü, where the train that caused an accident took off. The memorial to be built by Uzunköprü Municipality and Avcılar Municipality will include the names and personal belongings of 25 people who lost their lives.

A major train accident occurred in Çorlu on 8 July 2018. While the passenger train moving from Uzunköprü to Istanbul was passing by Çorlu, 5 wagons were overturned as a result of the sliding of the soil culvert under the rails. 25 people died in the accident and 317 people were injured. A memorial will be built in Uzunköprü, where the train departs, in memory of those killed in the accident. Speaking to the Stamp, Uzunköprü Mayor Özlem Becan said, “First of all, I remember our deceased citizens once again with respect and mercy. Our pain is always fresh like the first day, our wounds do not crusted. We have not given up our struggle for justice, we will never give up, we will not take a step back. "Our lives, which we lost as a result of negligence, were killed by murder, not an accident," he said.

We will live forever

Saying “July 8th Çorlu Train Accident will remain our unclosed wound” Becan said, “Our monument, which will live as a symbol of both our survival and our pursuit of justice, will be located in Demirtaş District. We will include the names and personal belongings of our 25 citizens who lost their lives in our memorial. "We will remember our children, brothers, brothers and sisters that we lost in the 8 July Corlu Train accident with the monument to be built."

One of the most dramatic accidents

Speaking to Stamp, Avcılar Mayor Turan Hançerli stated that they will build the monument together with Uzunköprü Municipality and said, “I did a research about this accident when I was a member of the CHP Party Council. We established a commission. We carried the issue to the Parliament. Now we want to support this monument to be built in Uzunköprü. We do it together. This accident needs to be investigated, uncovered, found guilty and punished. Dozens of our citizens died in this accident. This is one of the most dramatic accidents in Turkey ”.

Corlu Train Accident

On 8 July 2018, Istanbul-Halkalı 5 wagons of the passenger train that made its journey were overturned by derailment in Sarılar Neighborhood between Muratlı and Çorlu districts of Tekirdağ at around 17:00. The accident occurred as a result of the sliding of the culvert, which was passed over the rails due to heavy rain and was not inspected. While 362 people died on the train with 25 passengers, 317 people were injured, 194 of them were treated outpatient and 123 were observed in hospitals. Due to the harsh environmental conditions of the land, the surrounding villagers and injured survivors were the first to intervene in the accident.
