The first firing tests were carried out successfully in the Electron Gun Development Project being carried out at ASELSAN. The success achieved with the electron gun, which is the most critical component of XNUMXD printers for additive manufacturing, has enabled another important stage to be passed in the development of domestic and national XNUMXD printers that can be used in the field of defense and aerospace.

In the tests carried out at the end of 2020, an electron beam with a power of 4,32 kW was hit against a 2 cm thick copper test plate under vacuum. The electron beam, which was kept open for a period of 10 seconds, formed a melt pool of approximately 1,5 mm in diameter on the copper plate.

To remove the electron beam at higher voltages, a corona ring was designed and fabricated to prevent arcing. Bundle removal test was performed in March with the corona ring. The designed part provided a successful result in preventing arc formation and enabled the targeted 90kV voltage values to be reached. Electron beam with 90kV voltage and 10mA current values was hit on the 1,2 mm thick aluminum plate, creating a 1 cm wide hole in the plate.

The electron gun prototype, whose studies are continuing intensively, will be made ready for use for the next stage in 2021, the electron beam and metal powder interaction experiments.
