Audi Sport has set its goal as the sixth championship at the Nürburgring 3 Hours, to be held on June 6-24. In the championship achieved in 2014, Audi Sport, which also achieved the distance tour record with 159 laps, also aims to break this record, or at least equal it. Audi Sport Customer Racing will compete with three different teams, and in the cockpits of the Audi R8 LMS vehicles, there will be a 9-person pilot team, which includes 12 championship pilots.

Considered one of the world's most prestigious endurance races, known as the Endurance races, the Nürburgring 24 Hours is held between June 3-6.

All three teams that will compete on behalf of Audi Sport Customer Racing have determined their goals for this race: the sixth championship. Another goal in Audi Sport Customer Racing, which is involved in the fight with the Car Collection, Land and Phoenix jewelry this year, is to beat the 159-lap distance record it holds.

Combination of champions and youth

In the teams that will compete in the SP9 category on behalf of Audi Sport Customer Racing, 12 out of 9 pilots who will be in the driver's seat are names that have previously experienced championships in this race. The other three pilots are entirely young talent.

The Audi Sport Team Car Collection, the team of Peter Schmidt, which came in third in 2019 with a difference of only 15 seconds, has included three drivers who previously won the championship this year. Christopher Haase from the champion team of 2012 and 2014, Nico Müller from the champion team of 2015 and Markus Winkelhock from the champions of 2012, 2014 and 2017. Swiss Patric Niederhauser, who came second in the Pro-Am class last year, became the fourth member of the team.

Wolfgang and Christian Land's team, Audi Sport Team Land, has a squad of champions. Kelvin van der Linde and Christopher Mies, who took part in the team's championship in 2017, included René Rast, one of the champions of 2014, and Frédéric Vervisch, one of the champions of 2019.

From the beginning of the Audi Sport Customer Racing program, the Nürburgring-based Audi Sport Team Phoenix, which competed with the R8 LMS three times and reached happy ends twice with other brands, also formed a mixed team. Ernst Moser's team Phoenix, with Frank Stippler from the team that made the team the champion in 2012 and 2019, also kept Dries Vanthoor from 2012 in the squad. The other two pilot quotas of the team were filled with Italian Mattia Drudi and Dutch Robin Frijns.

The record can be broken

Audi Sport Customer Racing, which has been the most successful manufacturer with 1970 championships since 24, as of the period when GT3 cars competed in the Nürburgring 2012 Hours races, which have been organized since 5, expects a record as well as the sixth victory.

In 2014, the record held by the Audi Sport Phoenix team with 159 laps was very close to the record held by the Audi Sport Team Land in 2017 with 158 laps. The interruptions that lasted a few hours due to the weather conditions in 2016, 2018 and 2020 did not allow the teams that wanted to break the record. However, the fact that this race is at the beginning of June increases the possibility of a record, at least due to weather conditions.
