Devices that provide sterilization with ultraviolet (UV) rays at the airport terminals have been put into practice in 6 provinces.

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMİ) has added a new one to the effective measures it has implemented within the scope of combating the new type of coronavirus (Kovid-19) epidemic.

Devices that enable the sterilization of passenger baggage and escalator hand holding straps that pass through x-ray devices at airports are started to be used. The devices developed within the scope of the R&D studies of TÜBİTAK were put into service in Erzurum, Gaziantep, Diyarbakır, Hatay, Çanakkale and Trabzon, taking into account the physical conditions and passenger statistical data of the airport terminals operated by DHMİ. 20 tunnel type and 27 escalator-band ultraviolet sterilization devices were installed at these airports.

The tests of the devices that make up the system, which is one of the first applications in international airports in terms of sterilization area in the fight against the epidemic, were carried out in the laboratories of TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center and Kayseri Erciyes University.
