A new process has begun in the Kanal Istanbul Project, known as the Crazy Project. The Ministry of Environment and Urbanization approved and suspended the Canal Istanbul and Yenişehir Reserve Area Plans on March 25.
Plans covering 9 districts, namely Arnavutköy, Başakşehir, Avcılar, Küçükçekmece, Bakırköy, Eyüp, Bağcılar, Esenler and Bayrampaşa, will affect an area the size of 90 thousand football fields. The Kanal Istanbul Project, which will irreversibly destroy existing agriculture, forest, pasture areas and water resources, is objected by many scientists.
