A cooperation protocol was signed between the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Deputy Prime Ministry, the Ministry of Economy and Energy and ASELSAN to initiate R&D studies to solve the problems in the energy field in the TRNC. Middle East Technical University (METU) prior to a signing ceremony held in Morphou campus engaged in conversation TRNC Deputy Prime Minister, Economy and Energy Minister Erhan Arıklı, ASELSAN in the world to challenge Turkey's technology, he said that this is a global brand that courage. Pointing out that ODTÜ is a brand and symbol of quality among universities, Arıklı stated that he believes that ODTÜ will lead the investments based on knowledge and technology, especially with the works of KALTEV and TEKNOPARK in TRNC.

Arıklı emphasized the importance of ASELSAN's activities in the TRNC and cooperation in the field of energy. Expressing that solar energy could not be utilized sufficiently due to technological deficiencies in the country, Arıklı noted that the way for the TRNC will be cleared with the works to be carried out on how to eliminate the deficiencies and that cooperation will contribute to closing the energy gap. Following Arıklı's speech, presentations on energy systems and smart grids, TRNC electricity grid analysis studies, goals and targets were made by ASELSAN Integration and Automation Manager Uğur Türkoğlu and ASELSAN Cyprus Advanced Technologies Research Program Manager Ersel Ercek. After the presentations were completed, the event ended with a group photo shoot in memory of signing the cooperation protocol.
