Fahrettin Altay-Narlıdere metro line, which is one of the most important investments of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, which continues its works to improve the light rail system, has reached an important stage. During the excavation work, which was carried out by TBM (tunnel boring machine) on two lines, the construction of which was undertaken by Gülermak AŞ, the excavation was completed on the 7,2-kilometer line connecting Fahrettin Altay and Narlıdere District Governorship Station. While the first TBM made an advance of 4 thousand 567 meters in the tunnel works, a 2 thousand 551 meter long tunnel was excavated with the second TBM that was commissioned later. Thus, the total tunnel length excavated with tunnel boring machines reached 7 meters. The last station was reached in the tunnel that previously unified Balçova, Çağdaş, Dokuz Eylül University Hospital, Faculty of Fine Arts, Narlıdere and Şehitlik stations. The other tunnel is expected to be opened completely in the oncoming process.

Uninterrupted transportation from Bornova to Narlıdere
In addition to deep tunnel digging with giant machines on the Fahrettin Altay-Narlıdere metro line, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality continues its excavations started with the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM), which is the classic tunneling method. The length of the tunnel excavated during these works reached 4907 meters. Thus, the total length of the tunnel opened with TBM and NATM methods reached 12 meters. 25 percent of the total tunnel excavations on the line have been completed. Fahrettin Altay-Narlıdere metro line consists of 83 stations: Balçova, Çağdaş, Dokuz Eylül University Hospital, Faculty of Fine Arts, Narlıdere, Martyrdom and District Governorship.
