Speaking about the transportation projects in the first ordinary assembly meeting of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality in March, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer stated that there are no obstacles for the Buca Metro and that the formed consortium continues to work for the international tender. Mayor Soyer said that the light was also seen in the first tunnel of Narlıdere Metro.

The first meeting of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Council in March was held at the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center under the administration of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer. The meeting started with a video screening prepared for 8 March International Women's Day. In the opening, speeches were made by the members of the parliament on the importance of 8 March.
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer stated that the light was seen in the first tunnel of Narlıdere Metro, which is under construction. “The line consists of two tunnels of 7,2 kilometers. I came here a little late for that reason. We saw the light in the first tunnel. The tunnel is opened. I shared that moment there with my friends with great excitement and great pride. I am happy to share this with you right now. Indeed, this is a very meaningful moment because it is the first tunnel to be opened with a TBM. I promised my friends, 'When the tunnel is over, I will run in that tunnel.' I hope we will do it when the concreting is finished, ”he said.

Stating that the second tunnel will be opened by July at the latest, Tunç Soyer stated that the calendar continues to function as expected, and that the pandemic conditions and the 30 October Izmir earthquake do not affect the working speed of the subway, and that Narlıdere Metro will be put into service towards the end of 2022.

"There is no obstacle for Buca Metro now"

Stating that there was no obstacle for the Buca Metro to participate in international tenders, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer said, “We had a preparation for Buca Metro and a consortium we formed for it. However, we had a request for the approval of the President because the Treasury approval for one year had expired. His approval came today. Therefore, we would like to express our gratitude to our President. Thank you. On the one hand, there is no longer any obstacle with the Buca Metro. The international tender will take place as we envisioned. The consortium continues its bidding process ”.
