IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlupresented their awards to the students who ranked in the painting competition organized by İSKİ for middle and high school students. Stating that there are many elements that threaten the nature of Istanbul, İmamoğlu said, "As a result, we continue our struggle against those who started a process that will cause real destruction in Istanbul with a 'Concrete Canal'." Saying that "Istanbul's mega project is to create a healthy and livable city," İmamoğlu said, "This will be a long-term struggle. If there are some obstacles, if there are some threats, if there are factors that will threaten the future of Istanbul under the name of the 'mega project'; It is our responsibility to oppose them with reason, science, law, and law.
İSKİ organized a painting competition themed "climate change and water" for middle and high school students studying in the city, as part of the "22 March World Water Day" activities. The jury found the 90 works participating in the competition worthy of being exhibited and published. An award ceremony was held for a total of 6 painter candidates, middle and high school students, who received degrees in the competition. The ceremony held at the General Directorate of İSKİ in Kağıthane was attended by the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM). Ekrem İmamoğlu also participated.
MERMUTLU: "WE SPEND 8 THOUSAND LITERS OF WATER FOR A HAMBURGER"
İSKİ General Manager Raif Mermutlu, who made the first speech at the ceremony, made clear his aim of organizing the contest with the words "To protect our water resources, to emphasize the importance of saving, to raise awareness about water usage and to evaluate the current situation from the eyes of young people" Emphasizing that water is a civilization and a source of life, Mermutlu underlined that this situation has become more understandable with the pandemic process. Mermutlu said, "There is also a 'footprint' of water," and shared the following interesting information:
“Water footprint, to put it briefly, is the amount of water used in the whole production stage from the beginning of a product to the final product. There is a serious consumption of water in a t-shirt we wear and a tea we drink. We throw away our water with everything we consume unnecessarily. For example, with an A4 paper that we use unnecessarily, we are wasting 10 liters of water. We spend 200 liters of water for 185 grams of potato chips and 8 thousand liters for a hamburger. So we don't waste water just while using it. "

Speaking at the ceremony, İmamoğlu said, “It was really valuable to see that we have young people who are really creative and who can feel, to see that we have young people who can imagine what they feel and who can write and draw them, and to see those young people who can convey this sensitivity and this sincerity to us in the deepest way. I would like to thank all our friends and young people who contributed to this process ”. Emphasizing that the most important problem in the world is climate change, İmamoğlu said, “The most important reason for this can be listed as the damage caused by human beings to nature, environment and our resources. We have to realize this process and find a solution together. "We have to do this without wasting any time," he said. Pointing out that the last 2 years of Istanbul have been dry, İmamoğlu said, “We should take this drought danger as a warning. We need to take a lesson and look in front of us like that, ”he said.

The winner of middle school Kurt and the winner of high school Karabulut presented one of their works they made out of the competition to İmamoğlu.
