Frequent Respiratory Tract Infections are Seen in Children Starting School

Istanbul Rumeli University Faculty of Health Sciences Dr. Habibe Duman, a faculty member, reported that the incidence of upper respiratory tract infections started to increase with the cooling of the air and the opening of schools.

Duman, in a statement, said that every mother and father whose child has coughed, had a fever or had a sore throat in recent years is worried that the child has coronavirus. However, he said that there are several important points where we can distinguish coronavirus and upper respiratory tract infection diseases.

'' DISTINCTING INFLUENZA FROM COVID-19 IS HIGHLY DIFFICULT ''

Pointing out that it is very difficult to distinguish Covid-19 from influenza, Dr. Habibe Duman explained the difference between the two diseases as follows: `` Coronaviruses are common in the society, such as colds, self-limiting infection tables, causing more serious infections such as MERS and SARS. is a family of viruses. This virus, which is transmitted by droplets, is also transmitted by bringing their hands to the mouth, nose and eye mucosa after other people touch the droplets emitted by infected individuals through coughing and sneezing. With the cool weather in recent days, children who start school are also faced with frequent respiratory tract infections. This situation made it necessary to differentiate Covid-19 infection from other respiratory viruses that cause similar symptoms. Like influenza, Covid-19 infection is very difficult to differentiate, as fever, headache, pain, malaise and cough can be seen. Diarrhea, loss of smell or taste, and shortness of breath are frequently seen in Covid-19 infection. The presence of similar infection findings in other family members and the presence of diarrhea, loss of smell or taste accompanying respiratory system findings strengthens the risk of Covid-19 infection and requires further examination.
