Mustafa Toruntay, Chairman of the Self-Transport-İş Union, published a message on the occasion of the '18 March Çanakkale Martyrs' Day and the anniversary of Çanakkale Victory Stating that we should keep the memories of our martyrs to eternity, Toruntay used the following expressions:
“When the date shows March 18, 1915, the Turkish Nation turned the struggle for existence into a heroic epic. Çanakkale Victory is one of the most honorable and brightest pages in Turkish history. This victory not only imposed the indivisible unity of the Turkish nation to the imperialist powers surrounding us, but also gave strength to the national struggle. Our nation succeeded what seemed impossible and made the whole world say “Çanakkale is Impassable” with the love of homeland.
This victory, which is unparalleled in the world, by our lofty nation and our heroic army with great sacrifices, should be told to future generations, and we should protect our beautiful homeland entrusted to us. With these feelings and thoughts, on the occasion of the 18 March Çanakkale Martyrs' Memorial Day and the 106th anniversary of Çanakkale Victory, we will be proud of this great victory by defending the homeland at the expense of their lives, and mercy our saints and veterans, especially Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades in arms.
