Work began in May 230 to gain laser seeker guidance capability for the TRG-2020 Missile, which has proven itself in the past with shooting test activities.

By showing a dynamic and effective working example during the pandemic process by ROKETSAN, the design activities were completed in a short time and the prototype production was made in June. After the system level tests were completed, the TRLG-2020 Missile was included in the July 230 firing campaign to carry out firing test activities at the Sinop Test Center. As a result of the first shot made on 2 July 2020, the TRLG-230 Missile successfully completed its first mission by hitting the target off the Black Sea. On July 4, 2020, under more difficult conditions, it successfully hit its target for the second time and qualified to take its place in Roketsan product family in terms of operational and performance.

In the shooting campaign carried out in July 2020, Bayraktar TB2 SİHA produced by BAYKAR's laser marking target was successfully hit by the Laser Guided 230 mm Missile System (TRLG-230). Laser Guided 230 mm Missile System (TRLG-230) will be able to hit targets marked by UAVs and armament from land. This new development will add strength to the strength of our soldiers in the field.

The characteristics of the TRLG-230 missile are as follows:

  • Range: 70 km
  • Warhead: Destroyed + Steel Shot
  • Guidance:
    • GPS
    • Global Satellite Positioning System
    • Inertial Navigation System
    • Laser Seeker

Stating that the missile capabilities of our country are working on technologies that will bring new capabilities to our security forces in the field, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made important statements about the TRLG-230 missile system:

“A laser seeker was integrated into the TRG-230 missile system. This missile system, which we call TRGL-230, has been developed in a way that it can hit the systems marked by UAVs and UAVs from land. Bayraktar TB2 SİHA's laser marking target was hit by a laser-guided 230 mm missile system. This new development will especially strengthen our soldiers in the front. "

The need for guided artillery ammunition

In today's battlefield, precise artillery support for units on the ground is critical. Guided artillery systems, which are seen as cost-effective solutions to the negative impact of the distribution of unguided artillery systems (high CEP value problems), especially in firing against opportunity targets in the field, stand out as the weapon systems that many armies are also interested in.

Laser-guided howitzer ammunition, which is widespread in the world, is seen as effective players against such problems. However, guided missiles developed using artillery rockets in a cost-effective manner have the potential to be an effective alternative to these problems. There is also the TRG-122 system developed by Roketsan for this kind of need. In addition, various domestic projects are underway to improve the distribution of howitzer ammunition.

The TRG-122 system, developed by Roketsan, was used in the past by firing from the naval platform and successfully hit its target. It will not come as a surprise that the TRLG-230 will also be used on naval platforms.
