Under the coordination of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, in order to prevent the producers from being adversely affected by the low demand for potatoes, Mayors started purchasing potatoes directly from producers and producer organizations. The first purchases started in Niğde and Nevşehir, where potato production is intensely made and naturally stored.
One of the world's major potato producing countries and produces more than it needs in Turkey, potatoes, potato production is 2019 tons in 4.979.824, rose to 2020 million tons with an increase of 4,4% in 5.200.000.
In our country, whose adequacy rate is over 100% and which exports 2020 thousand tons of potatoes in 124, hotels, restaurants, etc. due to the pandemic process. Potato sales in the domestic and international markets declined due to the shrinking demand in mass consumption places.
Despite the increase in production compared to the previous year, the low demand experienced increased the amount of stock in our country. In order to prevent this situation from adversely affecting our farmers, with the guidance of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, our Mayorships started purchasing directly from our producers and producer organizations.
The purchases made by our municipalities have started in Niğde and Nevşehir provinces where potato production is largely made and naturally stored.
In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Ministry of Trade are closely monitoring the domestic and international potato markets, and studies are carried out to increase exports.
