According to the data of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM), as a result of heavy and effective snowfall, the snow thickness in the high and rural areas of the city reached up to 30 cm. While the most tree fall notifications have been received so far, IMM has quickly responded to the incidents.
While the Siberian origin cold weather continued to affect the whole of Istanbul, as a result of the snowfall, the snow thickness increased up to 30 cm. According to IMM AKOM data, Üsküdar KadıköyIt is 10-20 cm in Sarıyer; 15-25 cm in Başakşehir, Sultanbeyli, Eyüp, Ümraniye; Snow thicknesses of 30-50 cm were measured in high places such as Zekeriyaköy, Tuzla Akfırat, Çamlıca, Arnavutköy Hadımköy, Silivri Binkılıç, Beykoz, Karlıtepe.
THE RAINING WILL CONTINUE UNTIL THE MIDDLE OF THE WEEK
It is expected that the cold and snowy weather will continue with short breaks until the middle of the week (Wednesday), then leave the Marmara region. It is predicted that the temperatures will rise to around seasonal normals as of Thursday. The air temperatures in Istanbul will remain below 18-4 degrees Celsius, with seasonal norms until February 8.
MORE THAN 200 TREES KILLED
Among them, IMM Fire Department, Road Maintenance, IMM Traffic Directorate, ISKI, Police. 5 THOUSAND TONS OF SALT SPILLED
Teams are working in line with the messages received from BEUS (Ice Early Warning System), which is established at 60 points across Istanbul. The tracking and direction of the teams is provided through the vehicle tracking system. Box salts were dropped at critical points. In the light of the incoming data, the teams will intervene in the snow puddles and icing at critical points such as overpasses, bus stops, squares. IBB Road maintenance team has poured 5 thousand 252 tons of salt and 7 tons of solution so far.
GUESTS IN IMM CAMPS THE NUMBER OF HOSTLESS CITIZENS IS 370
Homeless citizens living on the streets are hosted in IMM facilities prepared for the homeless after being persuaded by police teams and undergoing health checks. Currently, a total of 237 homeless citizens, including 107 Esenyurt, 26 Florya, 370 Kayışdağ, are hosted. A total of 04 homeless citizens have been hosted in IMM camps since 2020 December 1.438. In addition, 94 people, mostly families with children, were placed in hotels contracted by IMM.
During the studies conducted by the Veterinary Services Directorate teams for the feeding of street animals, dry food with high nutritional value was regularly left to 200 points.
