Istanbul Metro is the metro system serving the city of Istanbul in Turkey. 3 In September 1989 when the service was Turkey's first subway system. The system, operated by Metro Istanbul, a subsidiary of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, has ninety-nine stations with seven metro lines (M1, M2, M3, M4, M5, M6, M7). With this feature, Istanbul metro is the largest metro network in the country. M1, M2, M3, M6, M7 lines are on the European Side; M4 and M5 lines serve on the Anatolian Side.

The last project related to the Istanbul Metro is the study carried out within the scope of IRTC in 1987. This consortium prepared the "Bosphorus Railway Tunnel" project together with the Istanbul Metro. In this study, the metro route is 16.207 meters and a line with stations Topkapı - Şehremini - Cerrahpaşa - Yenikapı - Unkapanı - Şişhane - Taksim - Osmanbey - Şişli - Gayrettepe - Levent - 4th Levent is proposed. The part of this project between Yenikapı and Hacıosman has been put into service with the code M2 and the remaining parts are under construction or in project form. According to current plans, the line will serve as İncirli - Hacıosman and it is also planned to extend the line to Beylikdüzü.
The foundation was laid in 2005 and the first stage Kadıköy - The M4 line between Kartal was put into service in August 2012, the M3 line, the foundations of which were laid in the same year, unofficially on September 10, 2012 and officially on June 14, 2013. Haliç Metro Bridge was put into service in 2014. In 2016, the M4 line was extended from Kartal to Tavşantepe. As of October 3, 2016, direct Kirazlı - Olympic services are available on the M3 line only at peak hours on weekdays. December 15, 2017, Turkey's first driverless metro in the M5 Üsküdar - Yamanevler line was opened. The second phase of the line between Yamanevler - Çekmeköy stations was put into service on 21 October 2018. The M7 Mecidiyeköy - Mahmutbey metro line, which has the first driverless metro line on the European side, went into service on 28 October 2020.
