Mayor of Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality Dr. The Smart Intersections Project, one of the projects of Memduh Büyükkılıç for 2021 and designed to reduce the traffic density of the city, started to be implemented. Mayor Büyükkılıç, who held a meeting at Transportation Inc. to examine the work done on site and to get information, said that the development and testing studies of Smart Intersections have been completed and that they will be expanded throughout Kayseri.
Metropolitan Mayor Dr. Memduh Büyükkılıç held a meeting in order to review the services provided by Transportation Inc. and the work to be done from now on. Noting that they have made the evaluation of transportation investments, Mayor Büyükkılıç pointed out that the works on "Smart Intersections" started to be implemented at the meeting and stated that the smart intersection was put into use at Altınoluk intersection, which is an important junction on the Organize Sanayi route, and accordingly, works continue at 3 intersections.
Stating that the traffic of the city will be relieved with Smart Intersections, Büyükkılıç said, “We have come to the last point in terms of realizing smart intersections with our own resources and resources. The work done at the moment gave its product. It is implemented in some of our intersections. When the result was fruitful, we gave our instructions to accelerate the works that will spread to the general in Kayseri center. I hope we will overcome our troubles in that direction. Our aim is to provide the comfort of our citizens, ”he said.
Noting that they continued transportation services throughout the pandemic period, Mayor Büyükkılıç continued his words as follows: “We did not stop our services by taking shelter under pandemic troubles. We worked harder and turned this troubled process into an opportunity. We love our city, we love our country. We love to serve our people. We also attach great importance to sustainability. We need to take the necessary precautions in this regard. I want to share it here too. First of all, we are in an approach that maintains the same number of trips and even increases them with the work on tram transportation, private public buses and our own buses. The public in Kayseri is aware that we are at the peak of altruism, and we are also aware. We say thanks, let them exist. We also devotedly continue our efforts to increase the comfort in transportation in the east, west, north and south of our city. We do not take shelter in the pandemic excuse. We both manage this process and continue our investments. "
Speaking about the work done to strengthen the transportation infrastructure in Kayseri, Büyükkılıç said in his speech, “We have made our tender for the tram line in Talas and signed the protocol. Site delivery was also made. I hope our work continues there. As it will be remembered, with the work carried out by the Ministry of Transport, the work of the line passing in front of our Nuh Naci University and City Hospital from Belsin to KUMSMALL continues. We are continuing our multi-story intersection works, ”he said.
ABOUT THE SMART INTERCHANGE PROJECT
Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality Transportation Inc., one of the leading transportation companies of our country. and Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality Signalization Directorate, the first phase of the Smart Intersection Project was implemented.
Developing an innovative and sustainable solution approach in Kayseri, where vehicle traffic is increasing day by day, Kayseri Transportation Inc. has reduced the waiting times at the intersections with this system, accelerating the traffic flow and reducing carbon emissions. By using the TSE certified Kaniş Intersection Control Device, which was developed by Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality Transportation Inc., the system costs were reduced. For the first phase of the Smart Intersection Project, which will be a solution to traffic congestion, Altınoluk Intersection, which is an important point in transportation to the Organized Area, and its connected intersections were selected as the pilot area. R&D studies started in September 2020, and the smart system was put into use at the pilot junction in January 2021.
In order to realize the project, sensors were placed on each road on the pilot intersection. The developed Smart System optimizes the green times of the intersection by processing the vehicle count data from the sensors. In this context, the waiting times of drivers at the intersection were improved by 21% during the daytime and by 18% in the evening, as a result of this improvement, the length of the queue at the intersection was visibly reduced when the traffic was heavy. In addition, intersections were made remotely manageable and monitored with the developed Traffic Control Center software. As a continuation of the project, the first phase of which has been completed, the process of developing solutions for coordinated intersections continues.
Smart intersection application will be expanded rapidly at city-wide intersections.
