Which Messaging Application is Safer for Users?

Most messaging apps today are relatively secure as they use end-to-end encryption when sending messages.

It is also worth remembering that while the iOS system is really quite reliable to use such apps, users risk facing an attack on their mobile devices. The situation is slightly different from iOS, as Android has an Accessibility Service built in.

It is a known fact that attackers use the features of this service to collect user data. Especially in the past year, Kaspersky has detected the presence of stalkerware that collects incoming and outgoing messages from instant messengers using this standard function.

Therefore, Kaspersky recommends mobile device users wishing to protect their personal data to observe the following rules:

• Do not download messaging and other applications from third party sources. Be careful to use only official apps (program sites).
• Whenever possible, read the user agreements. Check for clauses where the developer of the app explicitly warns that they may share the user's personal data with third parties.
• Don't click on suspicious links, even if they were posted by your friends.
• Dedicate to using security solutions on your mobile devices whenever possible.

Be careful about what permissions downloaded apps request. If the requested permission is not required for the application to function, there is reason to be careful. For example, the flashlight app doesn't need access to the microphone for it to work.
