What kind of picture did you see when you took office?
We found an atmosphere of complete chaos, abandonment, abandonment. 12 of the 10 rail system projects had stopped. We've come a long way in solving the problems in 12 of 2 projects. Out of the remaining 10, we created various financial models and raised 6 of them. Currently, construction continues on 8 lines. We transferred the Başakşehir-Kayaşehir line to the Ministry of Transport. We have a Newborn-Labor line, we are working on it, it has not been credited yet. The tunnels of the subway constructions were creating the risk of collapse. What measure did you take?
First, we looked at how these lines were stopped. When we first arrived, we identified 38 tunnels and shafts that need urgent intervention. Already when we start work, the contractor starts to get into the tunnels. In some tunnels and shafts that we did not start, we made reinforcement against earthquakes at points we saw as urgent. They are all under control right now.
Which line was the busiest for you in Istanbul?
Technically, the most challenging was Eminönü-Alibeyköy tram line. Although there was no tunnel construction, it was forced. This is a beach band and has been closed for a very long time. As people were walking, they forgot that there was the sea next door. Due to the ground peculiar to the Golden Horn, we broke and rebuilt the 1.3 km part built due to the collapse and slips in the ground. It has been a closed area since 2016. We are currently working 7/24. On January 1, 2021, we are opening this line between Cibali and Alibeyköy.
Why doesn't the whole line open?
