China has launched an EMU (Electric Multiple Uni) type high-speed train (YHT) service that can operate in extreme cold weather such as minus 40 degrees. The EMU type train, called "Fuxing" meaning "rebirth", was designed to speed up to 350 kilometers per hour. Zhou Song, one of the directors of China Railway Beijing Group, will travel between Beijing and Harbin, the capital of the country's northernmost province, Heilongjiang.

The designers of the train covered the outside of the wagons with a layer of porous material. This material stores condensed water in its pores, and when the temperature of the wagon where the passengers are located increases, the water evaporates. The developers of the train in question also used a new system controlled with a single button to operate in extreme cold.

On the other hand, according to the balance sheet released as of the end of last year, 1.035 EMU Fuxing trains traveled 836 million kilometers in total in the country and carried 827 million passengers.
