Azerbaijan, Nakhchivan and logistics for a line to be built railway will pass through the border with Armenia, Turkey announced.

Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar also met with President Ilham Aliyev in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, where he went with Chief of General Staff Gen. Yaşar Güler and Force Commanders.

Receiving Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said at the joint press conference that the railway was planned on a line from the town of Horadiz on the Armenian border to Zangilan.

Stating that the construction of the railway will take 2 years at most, Aliyev said, "We think that we should not wait for this date and that the goods can be transported to Horadiz by train and from there by trucks," he said.

Referring to the peace agreement signed on November 10 and ending the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia in Nagorno-Karabakh, Aliyev said, "Thus, the opening of the Nakhchivan Corridor, which is an important part of the agreement, will be implemented."

Aliyev did not provide information on which products will be transported on the commercial route in question. Along with oil and natural gas, sugar, fruit and metals constitute a major weight in Azerbaijani exports.
