IMM took action to clean the wastes on the shores of the dam lakes whose water was drained due to drought. The comprehensive study, initially initiated in Terkos, Sazlıdere and Ömerli dams, will be expanded to cover all other dams within 15 days.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) started a comprehensive cleaning work on the dams, taking advantage of the weather temperatures being above seasonal normals. İSTAÇ teams took action to clean the coastlines of the dam lakes throughout the city, whose waters have been drained due to months of drought.

15 VEHICLES, 100 STAFF TO TERKOS

Terkos on the European Side was the first point where dam cleaning works were put into practice. İSTAÇ teams continue to clean the wastes on the shore of the dam here with 15 vehicles and 100 personnel. Again, cleaning teams started to work in Sazlıdere and Ömerli dams. All dams across Istanbul will be expanded to include all dams within 15 days.

THE WORK COVERS 7 DAMS IN THE PROVINCIAL BORDERS

The water requirement of Istanbul is met from 10 dams in total. However, only Terkos, Sazlıdere, Ömerli, Büyükçekmece, Elmalı, Darlık and Alibey dams remain within the provincial borders. Istırancalar, Kazandere and Papuçdere dams are outside the borders of Istanbul. The cleaning work carried out by IMM includes only 7 dams within the provincial borders.
