IMM cleaned the wastes in the reservoirs, whose water was drained due to the drought. The comprehensive study, which was first initiated in Terkos, Sazlıdere and Ömerli dams, was completed in 2 weeks throughout the city. A total of 1400 personnel and 200 cleaning vehicles took part in the works. A total of 7 tons of waste emerged from 40 dam basins within the provincial borders of Istanbul. In a statement made on his social media accounts, IMM President İmamoğlu drew attention to the need to keep the dam basins clean and use water economically.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) carried out a comprehensive cleaning study in the dam basins, taking advantage of the weather temperatures being above seasonal norms. İSTAÇ teams cleared 2 dam basins within the provincial borders of Istanbul from waste within 7 weeks. As is known, Istanbul's water requirement is met from 10 dams in total. However, only Terkos, Sazlıdere, Ömerli, Büyükçekmece, Elmalı, Darlık and Alibey dams remain within the provincial borders.

TOTAL 1400 PERSONNEL 200 VEHICLES

1400 personnel and 200 vehicles took part in the cleaning of the reservoirs. Staff on the ground worked with attention to pandemic measures. Mask and social distance rules were carefully applied during the studies.

TOTAL 40 TONS OF WASTE

A total of 40 tons of waste came out of the dam basins during the cleaning works. Approximately 45 percent of these wastes, 17,5 tons, are domestic waste. Household waste was followed by glass with 8,5 tons, plastic with 7,5 tons, metal with 4,5 tons and paper with 2 tons, respectively. The collected wastes were disposed of at IMM facilities.

Announcing the work done to the public through his social media accounts, IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlumade the following statements:

“Taking the opportunity to reduce the water level, we cleaned all the reservoirs and collected 40 tons of garbage. Now the rains are filling in immaculate basins. Let's take care to keep the environment of our dams clean and to use our water economically. "

"WASTE SHOULD BE DROPPED IN CONTAINERS"

İSTAÇ AŞ. City Cleaning Manager Ahmet Uğur İskenderoğlu said the following in his statement:

“We recommend the efficient use of water. Apart from this, we recommend that they do not throw their garbage on the ground at any point, especially in the dam basins, and leave their garbage to the areas and containers indicated by the municipalities.
