The section of the Northern Marmara Motorway between TEM İzmit-1 Junction and Akyazı Junction was put into service with a ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan via video conferencing.

President Erdoğan, who started his speech at the ceremony with the participation of Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Adil Karaismailoğlu, General Manager of Highways Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, parliamentarians, mayors, contractor company officials and many guests, with the wishes of the highway to be beneficial, said, “The length of the section we have opened today exceeds 68 kilometers with connection roads. . The total length of the roads opened so far has reached 389,3 kilometers. In the opening of the parts of the Northern Marmara Motorway, which started with Odayeri-Paşaköy in 2016 and continued until now, one more section remained. I hope we will have completed this last part in the first quarter of next year ”.

President Erdoğan stated that this segment, whose investment cost is 3,1 billion dollars, saves our country's economy 2,5 billion liras from time and fuel. Stating that the cost of the opening section has reached 431 million dollars, the President added that thanks to the highway, vehicle traffic will be greatly relieved in both directions of Istanbul.

Saying, "We offer our citizens fast and comfortable transportation alternatives for every direction thanks to the connection established at various points with the Istanbul-Izmir Highway and TEM Highway," President Erdoğan said, and with the completion of the Kınalı-Tekirdağ-Çanakkale-Balıkesir Motorway, the Marmara Region He stated that the surrounding highway network will be completed. Underlining the importance of Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, Osmangazi Bridge, and 1915 Çanakkale Bridge on the highway routes, the President said, “These types of buildings are works that have become symbols of our country and our cities as well as their transportation function. Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Karaismailoğlu said that the Northern Marmara Motorway is not only the Marmara; He stated that it plays a vital role in the transportation and trade of the entire Eurasian Region. "Thanks to the Northern Marmara Motorway, which is the driving force of the Marmara, the locomotive of Eurasia, which connects the two continents, the transit passage of the vehicles will be ensured with a high standard, uninterrupted, safe and comfortable road without entering the urban traffic".

Minister Karaismailoğlu also in the 6th section opened; He stated that there are 4 viaducts, 64 bridges, 22 overpasses, 20 underpasses and 179 culverts in total, 289 art structures.

Following the speeches, the opening ribbon was cut upon the instruction of President Erdoğan. Later, Minister Karaismailoğlu and General Manager of Highways Uraloğlu drove in the opening section.

Northern Marmara Motorway, starting from Kınalı location in the west of Istanbul; It is one of the most important highway investments of our country, which passes through the provinces of Istanbul, Kocaeli and Sakarya from the north and ends near Akyazı district of Sakarya.

By significantly reducing the traffic load over the capacity of the Northern Marmara Motorway, existing transportation networks and especially the Bosphorus crossings; In addition to economic losses such as increased fuel consumption, vehicle maintenance and repair costs, it significantly reduced noise, environmental pollution and emissions caused by traffic density.

Thanks to the highway that offers an uninterrupted, safe and comfortable transit opportunity for national and international land transportation and transportation vehicles; Transportation from Istanbul to Kocaeli and Sakarya provinces with dense industrial and industrial areas has become easier. Among these provinces, a fast and safe transportation alternative has been created to the existing TEM Highway and D-100 Highway, which are exposed to high traffic volume.
